Additional Information
Traditions .50 Caliber Percussion 32" Barrel Mountain Rifle is reminiscent of the gun used back in the time of early American exploration. Based off of a Jacob and Samuel Hawken design, the Mountain Rifle was the inseparable companion of fur trappers and American explorers alike.

Part of the "plains rifle" family, the Mountain Rifle could be found on the horsebacks of fur trappers looking for beaver and other pelts thanks to its long barrel which enabled this rifle to take a targets at longer distances. American explorers also were partial to this rifle due to the longer barrel. While the original had a rust brown finish on the barrel, Traditions has selected a Brown CeraKote Finish which replicates this finish while providing increased corrosion resistance. The Patch Box, custom-scrolled trigger guard, and many other features make this a gun you'll want to add to your collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this Rifle I have owned this rifle for some years. I currently own five muzzle loaders, but this is my favorite it’s well made and very accurate. As you can see it doesn’t match the model shown. It was originally blued, I browned it and added the patch box. I have owned other Traditions fire arms several rifles and an 1851 navy colt in .44 I have found them all to be very well made and very affordable. Some of these guns have come and gone, but this one never will. I hope to one day hand it down to my Son and then Grandson. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good kit and fun to build! I have built 4 Traditions kits in the past 6 months, and loved them all. The Mountain Rifle was quite well packaged, and had just enough wood left on the stock for me to make it truly "mine" by recontouring a couple areas to fit me and my impression of a Hawken style rifle. Preliminary fitting was quite easy with only minor adjustments needed to fit everything. The Traditons cold blue worked very well on the barrel making it a very nice attractive dark blue. I chose to use dark stain, along with tung oil for a final finish, and love the finish that was achieved. The pictures should say enough about the Mountain Rifle! Don't hesitate to build one yourself, it is fun and rewarding! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Rifle I was originally looking at the Prairie rifle and I stopped at my local Black Powder outfitter and he had 2 of the Mountain Rifles there .. wow what a sweet rifle, I was not sure about the extra length of the barrel over the Prairie Rifle but it has such a great balance and feel it was an easy sale ... very pleased with the Rife and it’s accuratcy which I am sure will get even better as we work up the best load combination... you get a chance don’t miss out on this rifle [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fun to shoot I got this two years ago following a childhood dream of owning a 50 cal , sadly after I bought it, I let it sit for almost a year before I fired it. Since that day I have been active in my local muzzleloader club and shoot regularly the ease of cleaning and maintenance of this product make it my favourite gun to shoot and the first one I show to my friends when they ask me anything about muzzleloading, thank you for years of enjoyment on the range and in the field [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features I bought this rifle over 25 yr. ago. I have shot targets and invited my family members and a friend to shoot with me. My wife liked shooting my rifle so much I had to buy one for her. My friend also liked it so well he bought one. So thank you very much for making a muzzle loader that not only shoots well but is easy on the pocket. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice rifle I bought this for Muzzle loading season in Massachusetts. The Gun looks great, the fit is acceptable for a mass produced gun. the inlays are flush, but with some small gaps. the lock up of the barrel wedges are tight, and the triggers are crisp. the set trigger could be shaped a little better as it fits the index a little funny. I don't use it during hunting season, as it clicks when set. just use the forward trigger for hunting. As for accuracy, Excellent. Out of box had to replace the read sight with a taller one. hit 6 inches high. once replaced, shot 1 inch groups 2 inches high at 50 yard. at 100 yard still shot 1 inch groups with my eyes, about an inch right and inch low, all with 75 grains of XX black powder and .49 ball with .018 pillow ticking. Only thing is see that could be better is the type of wood used. looks great, just a little soft. seems to dent easily. For me, its a hunting rifle, I can deal with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun to build. I purchased this product a few years back and built it with my son. It was a blast and is a blast to shoot. The only reason I did not give it a five star is that sometimes I get a hang fire. Other than that no issues. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
