it depends on what your needs
I bought this to use it on my regal. I needed a rear anchor to stop the swing. It mounted on the swim platform ok. It will not pull a 30 lb anchor up. It does have a plastic gear which strips out under pressure. Never had it in the water. I call the parts line they said they were in the process of having a metal gear made to replace the plastic one and it should be ready in a few weeks. I have not seen it yet? Hum! I am stuck since I have already mounted it to my deck. Not a small task in itself. For less than $100.00 I could have bought a 2000 lb wench from [@] The telephone number for the trac parts is [@] you might call and find out if the metal gear is in before you buy and try.

JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all I bought the pontoon 35 because I am disabled. I also bought the remote. Nowhere did it say you had to totaly dissasemble the winch to install the remote. But after that was done, I removed my pontoon from the water and put it in my garage on the trailer and mounted the winch. I hooked my 25lb. river anchor to the cord and raised it 3 feet off the floor, it worked perfect. I then lowered it and tryed it again, again it worked perfect. I went and got my neighbor to show him. I let it down again and it came back up half-way and stripped the PLASTIC gear on the spool. [...] The remote was the only thing that worked right. DO NOT BUY A TRAC PRODUCT. BUY ONLY MADE IN THE USA.

Free wheel
Boat it for my 22' tritoon. After about 8 uses, the line just free wheels out as if the pawl is striped. In process of contacting the mfg. on replacement. My initial rating of 1 star, pending company resolution stands. Hopefully, it will get corrected and I will update my rating. As of now, I can not recommend this product.

Anchor Winch
The wireless remote that can be bought for this is a must. I had one before on my 17 foot skiff so I wanted one for my new boat. Keeps the anchor line out of the way, makes for easy stop and go fishing. I recommend when installing the wireless use small stainless steel srews after drilling small holes in the mounting plate. The button on the unit will still work but you can drop the achor from anywhere on the boat. My last one lasted 3 years and was still going strong when I sold my boat to buy this new one.

Installation Difficulties
Seemed like a great replacement for an Anchormate unit of similar design. In the course of attempting to install this unit I found two of the cover screws so galled in the bosses, that they were impossible to remove. The heads on the Phillips head screws striped out. At this early stage of installation, the cover is now marred badly from trying to get the screws out it would be hard to say it looks like new. Going to find out how good the warranty is here soon.

Is the copper plate that comes with the breaker supposed to be used between the two contacts on the breaker? It seems like it would jumper out the breaker if it is used between the two contacts. Thanks
NO.. The copper plate with the breaker attached is connected to the positive power supply from the battery. Do not shout out the two connectors.

Is there a plate that this can be attached to...sort of like the trolling motor plate that allows the motor to be detached?
The toggle switch snaps into a mounting plate the mounting plate shows witch the anchor winch is to go (up or down) that snaps on the front of the Anchor winch, or it can be mounted on the boat else where.

Can I mount the on/off switch remotely? If so, how far from the winch can I mount the switch?
The switch for this product comes mounted on the rear side of the winch with, I believe, four small screws. You can take the screws out and mount the switch elsewhere but you will have to supply your own electrical wire because the winch does not include extra electrical wire for this purpose. Take a look at the supplier's advertisement on their website also. The pictures for the product will illustrate my above comments. http://www.trac-outdoor.com/goods.php?id=8

Where can I find user manuals for the TRAC Anchor Winches? Would like to study the installation and operation of the different models before deciding which to purchase.

Can this product be mounted upside down? I am wanting to mount it to the bottom side of the deck of my pontoon to keep them from being another obstacle in the dark.
It is recommended that this item be mounted to the top of the deck.
