Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smith Multisport Trailer First and foremost, research your state laws before you try and register your trailer. At this time I have a 180 pound paperweight in the back yard that I cannot use. I had to send the Certificate of Origin to the manufacturer to get it properly filled out, signed and notarized, officially transferring ownership to me before my state will issue me a plate. It only took me abut 8 hours total to put it together. The wiring was way better and heavier than expected with nothing to solder or reengineer and no ground wire to get corroded and fail. I did put a bead of silicone around all connections as an extra precaution. A few things I would make changes to would be the slotted bolts holding the fenders to the brackets need to be carriage bolts, seven grommets for the wires that pass through the frame would be nice, rubber caps for the two "Canadian" wires with nothing going to them. Over all, the quality is much better than expected and if you go to the manufacturer web site they do offer some replacement parts, accessories and a longer 96" tongue for longer boats/canoes. I would definitely recommend this trailer. Camping world offered the best price too. I have seen this exact trailer for several hundred more than what I paid.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from CE Smith Multi Sport Trailer Not really designed for a kayaks. If you specify you’d be using the trailer for a kayak, a third perpendicular bunk, associated bracketry and fasteners should be included. Greater support, ridigity and and ability to properly secure the kayak to trailer would be greatly enhanced. If you have help, attach the fenders before the tires, flip the frame upright, then attach the tires. The wiring is fairly straight forward but fashion a grommet where the connection passes through the frame to prevent the inevitable chafing. An 1 1/2” round grommet worked for me. To make your trailer water safe, liberally apply clear silicone caulk to the back of the side marker light, especially where the wires enter the back of the light. The same applies to all the push on wiring harness connectors and light fixtures. Order your spare tire from Amazon. CE Smith seems to be continually out stock and their tire is $20 more expensive. All in all, had Malone been able to keep their ultralight available this season, I would have bought theirs. Sadly, I had to settle for second best. It’ll work, but way to much adaptation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trailer This is a strong trailer. People who designed it knew boats and trailers. Took a while to assemble. Changed a lot of the zinc nuts and bolts to galvanized. Winch was top notch..

Reading the reviews of this trailer, I am a little nervous about the state registration requirements. Does this trailer come with the necessary documentation, such as "certificate of origin" from the manufacturer?

Asked by: Roadking
Mine came with a certificate of origin and that was good enough for the Virginia DMV to let me register. However, as somebody else pointed out, the certificate of origin won't be filled out showing you as the owner (or any owner, for that matter). If that is a requirement for your state, you'll have to contact either Smith or Gander to get it straightened out and filled out properly.
