They went the distance and then some.
I purchased a pair of these 4-ish (can't quite remember) years ago, and then another two years ago. Since then I've been off the grid a bit and about a year ago I ran down to 3 pairs of socks total. Two of them are these and the other is a pair of OD Army-issue wool socks, so they get worn two to three days of the week and hand-washed in-between. As of this fall I finally wore through the bottom of one of the pairs. So figure they made it 365+ wears in hiking and camping and just living in the woods on the shore of Lake Superior. Assuming these are made the same as the last two pairs I purchased they are worth every penny; if they were a little less expensive I might even own more than two pairs.

They DO make a difference
I did it. Finally. ALL of my socks have now been replaced by various Smart Wool socks. Now that I'm used to wearing nothing but smartwool, any other socks feel like ziplock bags on my feet. This is the way of the future, people! Yes, these socks are more expensive than most socks, but seriously, they will last you 5x longer. Buying a pair of $15 socks that will last you 7 years is actually cheaper than buying a pair of $3-5 socks that will only last a year or two. AND these socks will make your feet feel better, and you get compliments on them all of the time.

Limited sizing
The socks from Smartwool are really nice with the exception of sizing. I have wide feet and Smartwool doesn't offer wide. As a result the socks wear out quicker than they should. Given the price of these socks I need them to last longer.

Peel on the heel
I bought 3 pairs of this socks. I must recognise that are very warm and comfortable, but after a few uses (in winter time), the heel is peel.

Too tight. Then they shrank.
I am not a big person (5'8" 165 lbs, size 10.5 shoe) but theese socks are too tight. I love Smartwool socks but these fit differently than all my other Smartwool socks. I had a pair of these in LARGE and they shrank and were way too tight. So I ordered a pair in XL hoping they would fit after they shrank. Well, I was right about one thing: they did shrink. The XLs are also too tight. Very frustrating. Why do they fit differently than all my other Smartwool socks?

So Comfortable!
I wear these as everyday socks to work, but love that I can wear them on a hike after work, or as my bike socks when I cycle commute in. Even if they get sweaty they stay comfortable and dry out fast. I love the level of cushion. I have narrow feet and they help fill out roomy shoes well. I also tend to get cold feet so they are my standby all winter long. I wear them all summer as well. The only negative has been a little extra fluff on the cuff where the colors shift. I guess it is the end of the yarn. But it's not real noticeable.

These are fantastic socks
The fabric on these appears thin for the first couple wears. The thread will fray slightly and fill in more as the fabric breaks in with washing. I wear these with my Wolverine 1000 Mile boots and they have just the right cushion for a traditional leather sole, but not so much that my feet feel cramped.
