Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good , All around gun I’ve had this gun for a little over a year. This will be my second deer season to use it. Got a buck and a doe last year, and have a lot of security with this gun. Love the tang safety, and the angle of the bolt. It’s very easy to get ahold of when your concentrating on other things.must keep an eye on the floating barrel cause I read other reviews about how others had to sand some off the stock cause of contact . Mine was close but no contact. Installed a Nikon buck master scope . Deadly. Couldn’t stand the color of the stock, had it camo dipped by a friend and think it looks better now.the gun and the caliber made me a better shooter. Very happy with this gun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ruger American 6.5 I had been looking at this rifle for quite a while and found the best price at Gander. After mounting a scope with Warne rings and bases and laser bore sighting I was pleasantly surprised to be sighted in within a few shots. This is not a $1000 rifle and I wish people would stop commenting on the fit and finish as If it was. This is a $400 gun and it will do what you want it to do. The recoil for 6.5 is great and not an issue. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive! I purchased this Ruger American Predator a few days ago in the 6.5 Creedmore. I have been reading online for the past few years the positive reviews of this caliber and have been looking to get a budget level gun from one of the name brand manufacturers. I currently have a Savage 12 and Remington 700 both in the respective .223 Varmint configuration. Both are very accurate with certain factory bullets and weights out to prairie dog distances (500+ yards). It has taken my Son and I a year plus of time at the range and out in the Dakotas to get these two guns dialed in and comfortable with them out to these distances. This has been a great bonding time with him as a father. Last year the two of us got to do some rifle hunting of white tails for the first time up north. Before then it was archery or shot gun for us down on the south half of our great State of Minnesota. When it came time for my Son to pick a rifle for the hunt, he had a choice of his great grand-fathers .30-06 or .308 or his grand-fathers .270. What he picked was the Remington 700 in the .223, which is legal in this State. He had spent a lot of time behind that gun and was most comfortable and confident with it. He ended up shooting two deer with it last Fall, one large doe at 200 yards and a 8 point buck at 245. Both were heart shots and the deer layed down 50 yards from the impact point but in the woods where we could not see them from our blind. I remember hearing the impact on both of those deer and saw their reaction from being hit, but waiting that half hour before we started tracking them was hard and on both occasions I promised myself that next year we would have a larger “take down” gun that he was comfortable with that was as accurate as our two Varmint guns. So, since then I have been busy researching calibers and guns that would work. It did not take long for me to realize that I should not limit my thinking to just white tailed deer. My Son has a real passion for hunting, fishing and shooting sports and some day I hope to be there when he gets his first mule deer, elk, caribo or even bear. I had to find a gun that could do these all. It was soon obvious that the 6.5 Creedmore was the cartridge for all of these and after heavy consideration, I chose the Ruger American Predator. This has a medium barrel, great bolt and action, adjustable trigger and weighs under seven pounds. The gun is small compared to my two others varmint guns, but for a large game hunter, that is a positive. Today was our second day at the range burning the barrel in and sighting in the gun. All I can saw is “wow”! At the end of today’s shoot, we were shooting metal flip targets at a 212 yard distance. Shooting 140 grain Federal fusions, the small 4” diameter target at our range that must be about 3/4”-1” thick steel and on a 12-14” long 3” wide arm of the same thick steel material were not just spinning around their axis, they were spinning around twice. Now to put that in perspective, the 64 grain .223 will move that target at the same shooting distance maybe 4-5”. We also invested in a .243 this year and that gun will get the 4” target arm to horizontal with a 95 grain Federal fusion. Intresting note, the Ruger 6.5 has about the same recoil as the .243 but from what I could see today, a whole lot more take down power. On the way back from the range today I asked my Son what gun he would want to shoot during this years deer rifle season. He responded that if he continued to shoot the new Ruger like he did today, then there would be no question the Ruger! I am throughly impressed with this gun and caliber. The only thing that I am bummed about is how fast we are already shooting this thing accurately and confidently. That is going to be lost bonding time!
