I call them Freddie Pie Makers
Growing up I called these gizmos a Freddie Pie Maker. And I could not find the Pie Irons anywhere on the Internet. One day someone mentioned to me Gander Mountain. Naturally I went online and found them immediately. I liked the prices so much I bought a double Pie Iron too. I have used the single on a trial basis to remember how to cook the pies and have been somewhat successful. I believe it only takes minutes or less to cook one of the pies. I recommend trying the irons before you go camping!!! Otherwise they remind me of being a little girl at Lake Tionesta with my friends and family. Thanks for stocking this product!

Cast Iron Square Pie Iron
My family uses this over the campfire at home and while camping in the woods. This is a perfect tool to have! You can make sandwiches, desserts, s'mores and so much more! We love that the clip that keeps the handles together does not slide down by the iron component, it stays by the handle. They are a little heavy for my younger kids but we wanted cast iron. We feel they hold up to wear and tear much better than the aluminum.

Nive sturdy pie iron
I gave this as a Christmas gift so I can't say much about how well it works; and it won't be used until summer either but I have bought others in the past like this one and it did a great job making camp pies. One recommendation ... don't lay the empty pie iron in the fire after you've finished making your pies. The intense heat will melt the hinges - (which is why I was buying a replacement here to give to my niece who did that and ruined the one I had given to her a couple years ago). :-)

solid asbly & material, poor casting
The two halves of the actual cooking portion of this unit are very sloppily cast. As a result, the halves do not mate firmly and can easily slide apart. There are no aligning nibs like we have on our cheap cast aluminum irons. Even the "hinge" is sloppy. There are no real mating surfaces. I'm very dissappointed and will probably return these. Materials and assembly were nice, just not very functional design.

Good buy!!
I am very happy with this buy! The price was much better than most places & the brand is a good one. These are very durable. Although they are a bit heavy & read directions before first time use! Must burn off protective wax before using!

Awesome
These are so nice to share with groups. We make things for every body that we can. If anything we need more! No end to uses! We like the cast iron better than aluminum, because they hold the heat better.

Great product
Great product. Heavy cast iron minimizes burning. After seasoned it was no stick and easy to clean.

These are the bees' knees
We got these to use with our grandchildren. The younger ones needed a lot of help but the 7 & 9 year olds had a great time. While we primarily wanted to use them while we were camping, I'm sure the darlings will want to cook with them at the house. I strongly recommend that you plan to use them during daylight hours expecially with the wee ones.

Do they crimp the edges? What are the handle made of?
With dimensions at 4-1/4" x 4-1/2", the head of the Rome Cast Iron Square Pie Iron generally has enough room to fit a typical bread slice without crimping the edges. The handles are wooden.

Can you use these on the grill as well as on a campfire?
Yep- just open them up once and awhile to make sure they don't burn.
