Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's looking good! I got this after looking around for alternative heating for use during extended power outages in the Pacific Northwest. Most electric units running off a generator are not sufficient to really heat a room well. Many fuel heaters are not indoor safe. This one is, and I was very happy to find the Mr Heater Big Buddy and got two of them for this winter. I'll be using a CO alarm also because I have one. Although I've not had a need yet in an emergency situation, initial tests indicate that there will be ample heat from this heater. Add the fan, safety factors, and ability to connect either 1 lb or 20 lb propane tanks and it's a very versatile product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Addition for Camping in the Cold For the people giving this bad reviews, I don't want to insult you, but I hope you read the instructions. The first time we used this in a tent, we didn't have enough fresh air coming back in that the safety feature engaged and it shut it off. Also, if you read the instructions, you have to let the coil heat up before starting. I realize there could be a few duds, but this thing is built pretty solid. Only downfalls are the ridiculous price and that it doesn't come with the hose to adapt it to a bigger tank. You will use both tanks in one night if you use it on Med or High setting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely LOVE! I cannot say enough good things about this little heater. I'm from Flint, MI, and was out of power over Christmas for six days. This heater ROCKED at keeping my living room warm, and my hall and bedroom overnight. I love the fan on this heater, too, it helps move the heat around the room, plus it's good background noise to help you sleep. I recommend having at least one on hand in case of a power outage- I will be definitely getting another one for my home!! Have I mentioned I love this little heater?! Just please be sure to have enough propane cylinders on hand to keep you warm, and some extra D batteries for the fan. I had my heater running 24 hours straight those six days and only changed the batteries once for the fan. Propane use will depend on whether you keep your heater on low, medium, or high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful heater and easy to use Just bought this heater to use in the garage (cleaning to surprise my husband before he returns from vacation), and I did not have any issues at all. Just make sure you have the right connector (see instructions for compatible hoses). It has a built in regulator, so it's an almost self explanatory hookup (if I had to figure out how to install a regulator (being an amateur handy woman) that would have been another story). It has been running for about 30 minutes and my 765 sq. ft. garage is about 45 degrees (it's 20 degrees outside).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this heater! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Big Buddy Portable Heater is wonderful for so many reasons. Easy to hook up to propane, easy to turn on, easy to use. It's great to have low/medium/high heat settings. It heats up quick, which in turn heats up your room quick. I love that it's indoor safe, but I can also use it on my back patio. It has already come in handy so much in the first couple weeks I've had it. I appreciate the features that it'll shutoff if it falls over or senses low oxygen. Highly recommend, if you're looking for a portable heater for either indoor or outdoor use! I expect to use and love it for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great heater I could not believe how quickly my 6x6 portable ice house heat up with this heater. I turn it on right away when I pop up the house and then when I get my stuff in there I have to take my coat off. It is always comfortable. It has ALWAYS worked and I have lit it in sub zero temps on the ice. I like the attachment hose that you can get to use a 20 lb propane tank as well. The little tanks do well, but it's just nice to have more than enough propane, especially when it's cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from To Guy Who Said This was a Piece of Junk Several members of my family own Mr Heaters, and they've all worked well. Would not hesitate to buy another. But, for the sake of education, I feel compelled to respond to the reviewer who said this was a piece of junk and wouldn't trust it on his elk hunt because it kept shutting off...sounds to me like that heater was trying not to kill you. All Mr. Heaters have a low oxygen shutoff. When carbon monoxide builds up because of a lack of oxygen, the heater shuts down and WILL NOT START until that situation is rectified. That's why it wouldn't turn on for several were sitting in a gas chamber and probably never realized it. The heater, fortunately for you, did. Had that heater stayed running as you wish, you'd likely have never survived to write that review, or at the very least ended up brain dead. If you don't believe me, google "carbon monoxide death tent" and check out the first couple of links. People who breathe carbon monoxide in large amounts become sleepy and disoriented. If they're already asleep, they simply never wake up. It's almost exactly the same as running a car in a closed garage. You should be grateful. That heater probably saved your life.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great product so far only have use it 3 great product so far I have only use it 3 times but cold weather just hit us so it will be getting a lot of use with deer season coming up. and then ice fishing. the only thing I didn't like is it was heavier than I thought it should be, but other than that it moves the air a lot more than the than the smaller Mr. heater, with the fan on. the low and medium settings are the same as the smaller Mr. Heater and high well it is defiantly high and uses the propane to when it on high

During hunting season I take out my 2nd and 3rd row seats of my Tahoe and use it as a camper. How can I vent this so the exhaust fumes wont get so high? Would cracking the windows be sufficient enough or just be counter productive?

Asked by: Debow
Thank you for your inquiry. You would need to make sure you are giving proper ventilation in the vehicle so that the oxygen depletion system does not shut of the heater when the oxygen level gets to 18%. The heater also cannot be used while the vehicle is in motion or used unattended.

can the heater be used safely without using the fan?

Asked by: Claude
That is correct the fan is to blow the heat out. However you do need ventilation or the CO will get to high. I open my window and allow air to blow across the top of the heater when the heat rises but it is not quite enough. It needs a bit more air. I think a small fan bring in air will mix enough with the heater to keep the CO down . But I am going to do some more research on this.

What size Propane does this take..?

Asked by: Christina
If you buy the hose and regulator kit you can use a 20,30,40,or 100 pound cylinder. I also recommend the 110V power supply for the fan.
