Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Winner You cannot go wrong with the 336. The Walnut stock is beautiful. It is rugged and reliable. Some folks don't like buckhorn sights, but put in some time at the range and it will be natural (besides, good alternative iron sight are avaiable..which I added to my Marlin 45-70). My 336 is about a year old and it permantly resides in my truck, loaded with Federal PowerShok soft points, with a "stock sleeve" full of backup cartridges. Every gun enthusiast should own at least one lever action, plus 170 gr @ 2200 fps will more than do the job, plus they are quick to engage, and good ammo can be easily had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome and reliable weapon I bought mine over 20 years ago and still use it regularly. If you are looking to make shots in excess of 200 yds, this is not the gun for you. Where I hunt, 100 yd shots are few and far between. Most are 75 and under. I do prefer my shotgun because of this but I love the 30-30 on those rare occasions when I have a longer shot. It has brought down numerous deer and is a great brush gun. Its short barrel lends itself to easily walking through thick brush and across a marshy coastal area. It has been exposed to salt water environment and still looks great with no blemishes. It has been cared for but only the basics. This is a solid, no frills rifle that gets the job done. I use the scope mainly as a set of binoculars, when I shoot, I use the open sights in the see thru mounts I have as thats how I learned. You can't buy a better made gun and the price is unbeatable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good short to medium range rifle This rifle has been made for several decades with little changes, because it works very well for typical deer hunting situations. It is NOT ideal beyond 200 yards, and most Marlins are not as accurate as most modern bolt actions. Recoil and blast are more tolerable however, and these short guns handle well in brush or smaller blinds. They are FUN to shoot, and plenty lethal with good hits.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good gun - BUT Good gun, but the sights get in the way of mouunting a scope. Also, come on....this price is RIDICULOUS> this thing is a hundred bucks lower every day an one other retailer we all know for the same thing. Biggest difference here is that the C version will get you a WALNUT stock and rubber recoil pad, better sights and a trigger that isn't gold plated----which eventually will wear thin to reveal other metal below.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from broken first time to the range bought this rifle based on friends and family and product reviews. noticed right off the front hand guard was a bit wobbly but barely. took it to the range for the first time and the barrel band screw/pin broke. now the hand guard is loose. gotta deal with warranty repair asap. not happy. 2 1/2 boxes of ammo to get near center of target. windage adjust is a pain!! shoots and cycles smooth. good trigger. good metal work. wanted a nice lever rifle, so far not happy with this model

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this gun Love this gun , wanted this style of gun since the first time I saw my first western.. I use it mostly just for recreation/target shooting. I was even happier when I purchased this on my gander mountain credit card and received rewards gift cards a week later and the points sure add up fast with that high of a dollar amount

I was wondering if this rifle is a replica of the Winchester of the Civil War, and does it have the same durability as the 1864 Winchester?

Asked by: Michael
No. A replica would have a straight grip, and a crescent-shaped metal butt-plate, first off. But the only significant repeater lever-action during the Civil War that I know of was the Spencer Repeater. The design of this rifle is completely different and much more modernized and refined. Also, even though the .30-30 is the first ever rifle cartridge to be marketed for use with smokeless powder, it did not come around until 1895.
