A very handy tool I highly reccomend
Received this as a gift when my outdated garmin 12 died. Only had 1 day to learn this device took about 20 min to master it. Great size excellent battery life used it for the first time this weekend hunting in a area Ive never been before and im hear writing this today. A must have dont enter the woods without 1 unless you enjoy the cold or being alone. This will get you home every night or at least back to base camp.

Great Basic GPS System
I use the eTrex10 for hiking and moutaineering and so far its excellent. Recently used it at 14,000ft in sub freezing temps and it continued working w/o a hitch. Could use topo on the base map though.

Returned this GPS. Very hard to operate,
I feel it was a very cheaply made gps. Came with very minimal instructions and the buttons didn't seem to work. Will try another brand or model.

JUNK !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am totally dissatisfied with this purchase. It will not function correctly. I have had 7 different people who have another gps try to assist me and they all say it is impossible to function. I will be returning it very soon to the store where I picked it up.

Good Product for the Price
Plan to use overseas to generally locate water sources. Looks like it will do the job well; however, it is unclear how to download the coordinates to a usable file format.

I see that it has a USB interface. Is the USB cable included with the purchase of this unit? Can you download your waypoints to your computer? Also, is there a compass option for this unit?
Yes, the Garmin eTrex 10 Handheld GPS includes a USB cable. To download your waypoints, you'll want to install Garmin Basecamp. This will enable you to send and receiver user data from the eTrex 10, found here: http://www.garmin.com/basecamp/.
Yes, there is a compass screen for the eTrex 10. The compass works by GPS and the user must be moving forward and actively navigating to a point for the compass to be pointing accurately.
