Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good first smoker This was a gift to me for my birthday and it's a great little smoker. In my opinion, the smoker has done what I've needed. I have done ribs, pork butt, brisket and chicken. All have turned out great. I would suggest that anyone purchasing this smoker, also purchase a digital probe-style thermometer. It's a little sensitive, and does require your supervision periodically. Make sure the water tray and your wood chips are checked anytime a temp spike occurs. Some have mentioned grease drippings onto the wood chips; I suggest a using a pan to catch the grease or to put your meat in while smoking (it will turn out just fine).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not really pleased at all Where do I start. The door doesn't seal at all. I tried it a number of different ways starting with water and wood chips in the bottom as the directions suggest. Water ran dry twice in less than 2 hrs. Then I tried wood chips only in bottom with a tin pan with water above. Can't get it up to 225 and I have 2 digital thermometer probes, one on lower rack and one on upper. With gas almost on high it is running 190 on bottom and 168 on top. Not to mention the door thermometer reads totally different thatn my digital probe. Should have went with a better built on. Unfortunately I am a victim of instant gratification and an unhappy one at that. Will defiantly be calling the company about this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointment Seems the main problem is bad design and inferior parts. The problem of the meat dripping on the smoking chips was solved with a drip pan on the bottom shelf. That didn't help with the other problems. Igniter did not work from the start and the heat control knob didn't either, which made it hard to control the intended function as a smoker. If the heat control knob is some kind of regulator, it failed. I will be looking into buying a new hose with a regulator. Bought this without much research, and regret it now.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works now Good price. My temp Gauge is right on with my remote one . Take the water tray and use it as a dog bowl . I could not get the smoker over 215 F . I reset the regulater two times with no change . It's 70 F temp outside , 5 mph wind . And I even heated the water to go in the tray . I enclosed the bottom of the smoker to prevent any wind . And still could not get over 215 F . The temp would go up alittle when the water was gone . So I removed the water tray and put a 12"x12" pan on the lowest shelf . And now she is hot . This is my first gas smoker . I normally use a charcoal Char-Boil smoker but I thought it would be nice to just put the meat in and not have to and charcoal or wood so often .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great After reading some of the other reviews I was hesitant to purchase this product. I am very glad I did. It seems that most of the negative reviews are due to user error and not a problem with the product. I am a first time smoker but spent a little time researching online. Rule number one: Do your homework and everything will be fine. I smoked ribs, tri-tip, turkey, and pork shoulder for Thanksgiving and it was all a big hit with the family. I look forward to experimenting more and getting better at the craft.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not for a beginner I bought this after my old smoker died. I wanted something a little larger and this seemed to fit the bill. It took a lot of playing with the vents to finally regulate the temp where I like it. It uses a lot more fuel than my previous smoker. The water tray need attention every hour and a half which I attribute to pan being to close to burner. It does an excellent job on Brisket, Ribs, and chicken. It cooks large quantities or single items. Other than fuel issue I am pleased with it but I think I like the smaller unit better.

First time owning a smoker.  Do you have suggestions or instructions for seasoning a vertical smoker?

Asked by: coachjb
The cooking grates inside of the smoker should be coated with vegetable oil before the cook. Please follow this link (bit.ly/2BT5M2p) to the product guide and view page ten for seasoning information.

I have read all the reviews, most I found seem to be from people new to smoking this is a good smoker. Most of what I smoke is fish and I wasn't able to get this smoker down to 170 to 200 degrees. I read and reread the directions and nothing I did worked.

Asked by: Jdql
This is a high maintenance smoker... to get the temperature down to smoking temperature the vent on top must be opened all the way and gas tuned to low. Also must keep water in lower tray...

Can't keep temp UNDER 275. Damper fully closed (And also 1/2 blocked on top), adding water continuously, (It takes SO much attention!) which is boiled away in about 30 mins. I need to be able to stay under 200 for 8 hours for good pork butt.

On model # 15202033 there will be a pan located under the cooking racks and above the burner that will hold the water and wood chips.
