Marcus has reshaped the outdoor and recreation industry. His work with Gander RV is filled with success stories, but Marcus’s rise to the top was not without serious challenges. No Silver Spoons

When he was just four days old, Marcus was left by his birth mother on the steps of a Lebanese orphanage. He was cared for there with other orphans until he was nine months old. Then he was adopted and brought to Miami, Florida. Sophia and Leo Lemonis raised Marcus in a household filled with love and encouragement. Their influence continues to steer his choices to this day.

In his childhood, Marcus showed a clear aptitude for business. He started a lawn mowing service when he was just 12 and leveraged that success to begin a candy business. All through his youth, his entrepreneurial spirit came through. He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami and then attended Marquette University in Wisconsin. He studied Political Science, Criminology, and Economics.

After graduation, Marcus worked at Anthony Abraham Chevrolet, which was family-owned. Here he showcased his natural entrepreneurial tendencies. It was also apparent from his work at the dealership that he had an innate ability for making deals. He may have stayed in the automotive industry, but at the urging of former Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca, Marcus shifted his focus to the recreational vehicle industry.

Visionary

This segued into a love of the outdoors and the outdoor equipment industry. After making the shift, Marcus quickly rose to the top of Camping World, becoming its CEO. In 2010 Camping World and Good Sam Enterprises combined. This put Marcus at the helm of the largest force in the recreational and outdoor industry. In 2017, Camping World acquired Gander Mountain, further solidifying the company’s place at the top.

Gander Mountain was rebranded Gander RV, and the locations began to not only serve outdoor hunters and fishermen but a wider breadth of outdoor enthusiasts with the addition of recreational vehicles to the offerings. Gander RV locations are a part of the largest dealer network in the world. It’s Marcus’s vision that has built the business into the one-stop-shop for everything outdoors that it is today.

Gander RV Future

Despite success after success, Marcus has remained grounded. His focus continues to be on people. It doesn’t matter if it’s an associate in one of his stores, a manager in the service department, or a customer out on the floor, his mission is to provide a means to create absolutely unforgettable experiences and memories. Gander RV is the gateway to the adventures you want to take.
